The International Award for Young People Nigeria in collaboration with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation launched a survey in the month of June 2020. The aim of the survey was to get a better understanding of the impact of the coronavirus lockdown/quarantine on our participants’ Award experience and on the lives of young people in Nigeria.

This survey was structured to capture the impact of lockdown/quarantine on young people in general and therefore can be used with all those aged between 14-25, regardless of whether they are an Award participant or not. Collecting data from non-Award participants will give us the opportunity to make a comparative analysis.

The survey consisted of general lockdown questions and questions for Award participants. The questions focused on how young people are coping with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic such as: stress management, mental health and wellbeing as well as how the Award has assisted participants with their personal development during the lockdown.

The result of this survey clearly showed that the Award is a great tool for helping young people to manage stress/fatigue, maintain good mental health and wellbeing and promote personal development during the lockdown. If young people could benefit from participating in the Award despite the coronavirus lockdown/quarantine, then imagine what an impact the Award would have on our society if every young person had the opportunity to do the Award.
