Art Education for Empowerment

The International Award for Young People Nigeria and Five Cowries Arts Education Initiative is delighted to announce a partnership that will open up opportunities for Award participants to develop their own capacity as leaders in cultural learning in their community and give them access to arts and culture experts in Nigeria and Internationally who will mentor and inspire their creative journeyThe partnership tagged “Arts Education for Empowerment” will ensure that young people regardless of their background are able to learn practical skills from seasoned professionals and positively impact their community using art as a tool for advocacy.

The aim of the partnership is to offer young people the opportunity to develop their creative skills in a variety of genres from puppetry to pottery to fabric art. This skills development will include training on using art for advocacy. It will also offer young people a fun, impactful “tried and tested” voluntary service programme that has been endorsed by UNICEF.

Through this partnership, Award participants will be empowered to use Five Cowries resources to engage with children in their own communities. Their creative skills will also be developed and they will be mentored by creative professionals both from Nigeria and Internationally.
